Rennes rules once again !
After Mermonte, there is Totorro, with his sparkling and melodious math rock. Four young guys underneath their beenies and caps, enjoying friendship, simplicity in adventures and fun !
Their first album, Home Alone, is simply stunning. Changes of pace, executed once by the drum, the other time by the guitars, are alternating with brillant musical phrases, this time ran by the bass and the guitars, contrasting with each other. Every song are different and complex enough to create an album really complete and absording from end-to-end. As far as you can tell, you can see that it's an excellent album that recommend to everyone enjoying instrumental rock.
The second one, Come To Mexico, was released on 21 october 2016. Not as punchy as Home Alone, this opus contains however some melodious tracks, like the beautiful 'Beverly Pills' or the mild 'Ouad & Khaled'. Perhaps less continuity during this album than the precedent, but I found a warm lightness that made think from time to time to the young but talented band 'Hinds' (of which I may talk about in a futur post btw).
Anyway, I wish you a good listening (and acquisition !!) of those two beautiful babies.
See you for others math rock beauties !
